Tamás Érdi
Bio
Tamás Érdi, a renowned Hungarian pianist, lost his sight due to a faulty incubator. His musical talent was quickly noticed, and his teacher, Erika Becht, developed a special method to make the sheet music „visible” to him by re-composing the pieces. A recipient of the Prima Primissima and Liszt Prizes, Érdi won the Louis Braille Piano Competition in Moscow at the age of 17. After two years at the Vienna Conservatory, he earned his artist diploma at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto as a student of Leon Fleisher. His concerts have been enjoyed by audiences in 28 countries, including prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center, and the Barbican Center.
Since returning to Hungary, his albums featuring works by Mozart, Chopin, Schubert, Liszt, Bartók, and Beethoven have been released under the Hungaroton label. His principal mentors, Zoltán Kocsis and Tamás Vásáry, guided him through numerous successful performances.
In 2010, Zoltán Kocsis commented:
„He touches the keys with far more sensitivity than sighted pianists. In certain dynamic ranges of his playing, there is a sensitivity that is simply not possible for us. I would dare say that this ability could be measured on a Chopin-like scale.”
Tamás Érdi is the visionary behind the successful outdoor classical music festival, Klassz a pARTon!, held each summer, where audiences can enjoy concerts by world-renowned musicians in a high-quality musical environment.
